The character is referred to as U-Haul Robot in the dialogue script for "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4" and was not given the name "Sentinel Prime" until The AllSpark Almanac II declared it so via an Ask Vector Prime entry.

Wyatt at BotCon 2008, Ironhide's voice and manner are based on Huell Howser, host of several California TV travelogue shows. He features metallic paint applications and a full-color Autobot insignia. Ironhide's Japanese release is named "Armorhide" due to the name "Ironhide" having been assigned to another character.

This new head features light-piping, and inexplicably, heavy painted circles under Ironhide's optics which give the impression of a 'Bot badly in need of a stasis-nap. At BotCon, Hasbro explained 'Either Ironhide got a new head, or Wasp did.' They went with the former. These "hammer hands" plug into the rear of his vehicle mode and feature a metallic silver paint job. He comes with two "hammer hand" accessories which peg over his fists, and his right fist punches forward when a tab on his elbow is pushed. It features a new head to more closely match the character. The tough Autobot was an early favorite of Sentinel Minor, who was duly impressed by his retractable armor. Ironhide fell in with Wasp from day one of boot camp, the both of them having high hopes for the Cybertron Elite Guard.
